Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
6 June 1849
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria returns Lord Paltimore's letter. She thinks it is of great importance to raise the Court as much as possible by appointing people of consideration in Society, not merely those who wish it for their own satisfaction and convenience and who, like Lord Poltimore (though a very good man), are thought ridiculous. The Queen therefore does to wish to appoint him as Lord in Waiting, and asks Lord John to make enquiries about some of the other Peers on the list she gave him.
