TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date13 July 1849
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionHaving drawn Lord John's attention to the grave responsibility England would incur, Queen Victoria does not wish to further oppose the line of policy the Government thinks it their duty towards the country to pursue. Lord John's observations about the evil of the restoration of the old abuses at Rome are perfectly true; but luckily England has not beseiged and occupied Rome, and is therefore free not to interfere.
