Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria approves the appointment of the Rev. J.N. Crawford (John Robert Crawford) as Master of Berkhamstead Grammar School. With regard to Church of England Livings, the Queen says that the papers announce that a Commission recommends the sale of all small Livings in the gift of the Lord Chancellor. Queen Victoria considers it injudicious and detrimental to the prerogative of the Crown. With regard to the Great Seal, the Queen thinks it much better that Cottenham (Charles Pepys, 1st Earl of Cottenham) should deliver the Seal himself to her [on his resignation as Lord High Chancellor], and she will see him on Wednesday.
