Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord Palmerston
Date
16 October 1850
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Palmerston, 3rd Viscount
Description
Queen Victoria is glad that 3rd Viscount Palmerston has given no countenance to the French and Russian proposal that England, France and Russia should send their armies to aid Denmark against Holstein. Queen Victoria does not expect any good result from Palmerston's counter proposal to urge Prussia and Austria to compel the Holsteiners to lay down arms. Denmark should be required by the Powers to present plan of reconciliation before she can establish peace. The Mediating powers should arrive at some opinion after investigating the rights and pretensions of the disputing parties. If they cannot do that they should fix on an impartial tribunal for examination and decision. What is morally right only can be politically wise.
