Date
8 November 1850

Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria has the papers. They show that the Prime Minister recommended the appointment (of the Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University ) to the Queen. The state of Germany grieves the Queen. It will never do for Prussia to recede from her former position or to retract her promises to Germany. Queen Victoria hopes that Constitutional Government will triumph in a country so fit to receive it. Queen Victoria approves of the appointment (with reduced salary of £1,200) of Sir John Herschel as Master of the Mint.
