Description
Queen Victoria says that the draft relating to Denmark cannot go in its present shape. It has been argued that the choice of a successor to the Danish Crown was entirely an internal question, and the Powers should not interfere. This draft lays it down that the German Diet has no right to treat the Succession in Holstein as an internal question, since it ought to be considered according to the interests of Europe. Nor is it true that the Duke of Augustenburg (Christian August II, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg) has no claim to the Danish Crown; his mother was the daughter of Christian VII and Queen Matilda [Caroline Matilda of Great Britain, sister of KIng George III].
