Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
29 October 1851
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
With regard to Denmark, Queen Victoria writes that it is true the Peace stipulated the separation of the Duchies, but as it was settled by the belligerent Powers and forced on the Duchies by a military occupation, the moral obligation on the mediating Power (England) is the stronger, to see that the material interests of the Duchies are consulted. The advice that Denmark should solve the problem by a coup d'état is less justifiable therfore. A permanent peace cannot be obtained by aggravating the injuries on the Duchies.
