TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date20 December 1851
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionQueen Victoria claims, on the resignation of Henry Temple, 3rd Viscount Palmerston, to reserve to herself the unfettered right to approve Granville Leveson-Gower, 2nd Earl Granville. The possible opinion of the Cabinet that more experience is required does not weigh with her. Her knowledge of Granville's character is sufficient, and his want of experience may make him more reliant on the Prime Minister. The Queen wishes to see the correspondence with Palmerston.
