TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date25 December 1851
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionThe "Times" article is admirable. The Queen says that the other papers seem puzzled as to Viscount Palmerston's resignation. Pamerston's letter is very characteristic and he has the best of the argument. Care should be taken in bestowing praise on him, as he always takes advantage to turn against those who meant to soothe him. There should be a Council to swear in the new Secretary of State.
