Title
Letter from Lord John Russell to Queen Victoria
Date
13 February 1853
Writer
Russell, John, Lord
Addressee
Victoria, Queen
Description
With regard to the Leadership of the House of Commons, Lord John Russell vindicates himself from the charge of making an arrangement to meet personal wants, thereby leaving the Queen the embarrassing alternative to forego the exercise of her prerogative or damage by her own act the formation or stability of the Government. Russell has aided the formation of the new Ministry to the utmost , while opening himself to the charge of extinguishing his own party rather than have a weak Ministry. Russell wishes for an audience wth the Queen in order to explain but it was not granted. Russell would like to lay his arguments before Queen Victoria.
