Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
21 January 1854
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria understands the scheme approved by the Cabinet regarding the 1854 Reform Bill. The chief argument in opposition that corruption and bribery are chiefly complained of by the Country and not an unequal distribution of representation, and re-distribution or extension of the franchise will not touch the evil but increase it. The success of the measure will depend on the Bribery Bills which will accompany it and may affect the passing of the Reform Bill. The Queen asks 'how far are they advanced?'
