Description | The Queen sends Lord John the Duchess of Parma's letter, asking for it to be returned after Lord John has made a copy. The Queen feels very deeply for the Duchess: she has been driven into exile three times, her father and husband have been murdered, and she has strong claims for the support of any Government which advocates independence and enlightened views. She is the only Italian sovereign who successfully resisted Austrian interference. It would be very sad if appeals to England, ever the upholder of right and justice, should no longer be of benefit. |
