Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria remarks that affairs give cause for serious reflection and great anxiety for the future. France's conduct to Italy shows how little Emperor Napoleon cared or thought for its independence when undertaking the war. The Emperor of Austria's manifesto shows how unfortunate Prussia's policy has been for its own interests; by restraining the minor States, Prussia now stands humiliated and alone, and its position in Germany may prove dangerous in future. England is not without responsibilty, having urged Prussia not to take part in the war; and Prussia may naturally look to England not to desert it.
