Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
22 June 1859
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria suggests an amendment to the despatch to be sent to Naples [regarding Italy]: the currently proposed positive opinion might be misinterpreted as a direct incentive to take part in the war against Austria, merely cautioning Naples not to say that Britain advised it. The excellent instructions given at the beginning and conclusion of the despatch show this could not have been Lord John's intention.
