Description | The Queen notes that the draft [presumably returned to Lord John] implies approval of the King of Sardinia accepting the regency for the Prince de Carignan. However, she does not think that England is in a position to give this, and should not make itself answerable for the King's decision. The Queen has marked a passage where a sentence should be introduced, denying any intention of pronouncing a judgement on the King's possible decision, before the Queen could sanction the draft. Having spoken to Lord Palmerston yesterday, she believes his views coincide with hers. It becomes of greater importance for England not to encourage the King as France has given a decided opinion against this act. |
