TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date10 January 1860
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionThe Queen asks Lord John to thank the Chevalier Marquis d'Azeglio for his book. She asks if Lord John has heard any more about the plans of the Prince of Orange. She and Prince Albert hope he has taken apartments in London, and that he understands he will only come to Windsor for a few days. He was independent at all the other Courts, and the Queen and Prince Albert never have any Prince staying solely with them, unless they are a close relative or have been specially invited. The custom is usually to ask such Princes to Windsor for 2 or 3 days if the Queen and Prince Albert are in the country; and Lord John will understand that the Queen does not want to deviate from this practice in the present circumstances. She hopes that this is completely understood.
