TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord Russell
Date3 November 1862
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, 1st Earl
DescriptionQueen Victoria discusses the question of Greece [and who might be appointed as King], and various possible candidates: the Duke of Leuchtenberg, Prince Nicholas of Nassau and [ex-] King Ferdinand of Portugal. She explains that she wished Lord Russell to be firm on the subject of Schleswig-Holstein, about which the Danes behave 'uncommonly ill'. The Queen withdraws her objection to the appointment of Mr. Lowther. As she has felt too unwell to write, she has dictated this letter to Princess Helena.
