Description | As the Queen is unwell, Princess Helena is writing this letter. The Queen was surprised by Lord Russell acting in a way that may involve Prince Alfred. If the Duke of Coburg accepted the offer, it would place Prince Alfred on the ducal throne, and the Queen feels she should have been consulted. She does not feel the choice of Prince William of Denmark would be a good one; and if the Duke [of Coburg] were to accept the throne of Greece, it would be better for him to adopt a near relation as his successor [to the Greek throne], such as Prince Edward of Leiningen or Prince Augustus of Saxe-Coburg. |
