DescriptionLetter from Colonel Charles Beaumont Phipps to Prince Albert informing him that at the time of writing that London was 'perfectly quiet' and troops had been ordered home. He reports on his day in London and on the unfolding events. Despite reports of an impending 'battle' he writes that the meeting was dispersed peacefully and that none were taken into custody. He also praises the soldiers and police who were on guard and writes that he would have been willing to fight for Her Majesty, had it come down to it.
