Writer
Russell, John, Lord; Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
Addressee
Victoria, Queen
Description
Letter from Lord John Russell to Queen Victoria confirming that he thinks it will be best to propose office [of President of the Board of Trade] to Mr Wilson. On the grounds that the Chartists and other demonstrators may use the vote on keeping the role of Master of the Buckhounds as an opportunity to demonstrate, he advises that the matter be kept out of the House of Commons. He also writes of the appointment of Mr Hawe and the benefit it has had as a means of demonstrating that the Whig party is not 'exclusive and aristrocratic'.
