TitleLetter from Sir Charles Eastlake to Prince Albert
Date11 May 1854
WriterEastlake, Charles, Sir; Secretary to the Fine Arts Commission
AddresseeAlbert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Prince
DescriptionLetter from Sir Charles Eastlake to Prince Albert regarding E.H. Baily's wish to be considered for a proposed statue of the Duke of Wellington to be place in St Paul's. Eastlake mentions that some jealousy among other sculptors occurred on a previous occasion when Mr Gibson was selected to create a statue of Sir Robert Peel. As a result, he suggests that the commissioners consider the selection and take into account a sculptor 'whose age and ability would be generally acknowledged to entitle him to be so selected'.
