Title
Letter from Sir Charles Eastlake to Prince Albert
Date
11 May 1854
Writer
Eastlake, Charles, Sir; Secretary to the Fine Arts Commission
Addressee
Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Prince
Description
Letter from Sir Charles Eastlake to Prince Albert enclosing a letter from Daniel Maclise in answer to the proposal of the commissioners (see VIC/MAIN/F/31/18). Eastlake reports that the letter shows that Maclise is less interested in payment than he is on the subject of the proposed frescoes. He also states that the proposed cost of the frescoes in either the Painted Chamber or St. Stephen's Hall suggests the question whether the annual grant of £4,000 would be enough and suggests that the commissioners meet to discuss this and other questions.
