TitleLetter from Sir Charles Eastlake to Prince Albert
Date16 August 1854
WriterEastlake, Charles, Sir; Secretary to the Fine Arts Commission
AddresseeAlbert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Prince
DescriptionLetter from Sir Charles Eastlake to Prince Albert reporting that two of Mr Ward's paintings, 'The Execution of Montrose' and 'The Sleep of Argyll, were placed in various compartments along the Commons' Corridor, in the presence of himself, Mr Ward and Sir Charles Barry. He reports that they all decided that the fresco alone would be suitable for the corridor, as the surface of the oil painting is too shiny and too dark to be seen. Suggests that they inform Charles Cope on this difficulty so that he may consider fresco over oil painting, so the same mistake is not made in the Peers' Corridor.
