Description
Letter from Sir Charles Eastlake to Prince Albert reporting that J.S. Gibson's statue of Queen Victoria, with the statues of Justice and Clemency, have been completed and are in place in the Palace of Westminster. He mentions that Charles Barry is having difficulty fixing the two statues on either side of Queen Victoria to the base and reports that there are some that object to them being there at all, suggesting they be placed in the Royal Gallery instead. He mentions that Gibson has forwarded to him a statement of his conversation with Barry and a letter on the same subject (see VIC/MAIN/F/31/31). Finally, Eastlake updates the Prince on the work of various other artists including Charles West Cope and Edward Hodges Baily.
