Copy letter from the Prince Consort to Sir Charles Eastlake
Date
10 August 1859
Writer
Albert, Prince Consort
Addressee
Eastlake, Charles, Sir; Secretary to the Fine Arts Commission
Description
Copy letter from the Prince Consort to Sir Charles Eastlake regarding the previous correspondence relating to the difficulties faced by Daniel Maclise in finishing his fresco (see VIC/MAIN/F/31/56-57). He states that all perishable material, such as oil and wood, should be eliminated from a 'monumental work' and that he believes the best method for such a painting is fresco. He also suggests to facilitate Maclise's working that the stained glass in the room be removed and a that a white sheet be placed opposite the window to reflect more light upon the painting (he includes a sketch to demonstrate).
