DescriptionLetter from Sir Charles Eastlake to the Prince Consort reporting that the House of Commons disallowed the estimate of £1,600 for two statues of British Sovereigns. He states that as a result the commissioners will be unable to make a selection of Sovereigns, as had been proposed. He also reports on the progress of artists such as Maclise, Theed, Thornycroft and Herbert, and mentions that Cope and Ward are in need of a place to work so that they are not affected by the close of Parliament and suggests wooden sheds to be erected.
