WriterPeel, Robert, Sir
AddresseeAlbert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Prince
DescriptionLetter from Sir Robert Peel to Prince Albert enclosing a letter from the Archbishop of Canterbury 'expressing sentiments with regard to the intended christening of the Prince' (not present) and a paper showing the dates of Investiture as Knights of the Garter of Frederick, Prince of Wales, George III and George IV (see VIC/MAIN/Z/470/55). He also encloses a copy of a statute, passed in January 1805, declaring the Prince of Wales to be 'a constitutional part' of the Order of the Garter (see VIC/MAIN/Z/470), which he explains will mean that the Prince of Wales will become a Knight of the Garter without election. Peel also discusses the subject of the Prince of Wales's name in the liturgy and encloses a copy of the 'Letters Patent' creating George IV (see VIC/MAIN/Z/470/57).
