Title
Letter from William Henry [Duke of Gloucester] to [Prince] William [Frederick of Gloucester]; with a note from Princess Sophia Matilda of Gloucester to Prince Albert [of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha]
Date
13 January 1804 - [c.1840-1844]
Writer
William Henry, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh (1743-1805)
Princess Sophia Matilda of Gloucester (1773-1844)
Addressee
Prince William Frederick, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh (1776-1834)
Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1819-1861)
Description
The letter states the Duke's sadness that he could not be with his son on his birthday [15 January], but that his 'greatest blessing and comfort' is the bond between William and his sister [Princess Sophia Matilda]. He also mentions that [Maria] Duchess [of Gloucester] had a recurrence of St, Anthony's Fire [inflamation of the skin].
The note from Princess Sophia explains that the accompanying letter was sent to Prince Albert, as he had asked for an example of [William Henry, Duke of Gloucester] her father's handwriting.
