Informing the Duchess that he is sending his own aide-de-camp, Lord William FitzRoy, to Calais, to obtain information about the Duchess's health. The Duke congratulates the Duchess for the happy event of the day before [her return to France from her exile in England] and he hopes that the journey was not too uncomfortable.
He assures her of his friendship and devotion.
