Description	Acknowledging the receipt of Lord Grey's letter in which it was communicated that a decision on corporal punishment would not be rushed, as the Government required a Statement of the Opinion of the Military Authorities to be presented in the House of Commons. In order not to have opposition in the House, the Government should concede a reduction of the corporal punishment. The King would like to see the documents recording the opinion of: Lord Hill; Officers on the Board [of Military Authorities] who left but expressed, before leaving the Board, their opinion on the matter; Sir Jasper Nicolls and Sir George Murray. The King also believes that it is their job [of the King and the Government] to maintain the authority of the Commanding Officer against prejudice and Radical Officers such as Major Beauclerk and Major Fancourt.
